University of Houston Academic Advisor Aaron Bishop talks about looking ahead when you are attending a community or two-year college. Visit the college you intend to finish at ahead of time to find out what classes/credits you need. Or you may be in for a big, expensive surprise.
Aaron C. Bishop founded the Striving Through Adverse Realities (S.T.A.R.) Foundation, Inc in October of 2009 and oversaw the foundation being officially recognized as an operating business on September 13, 2010. He was named Chief Executive Officer in September 2010. Aaron Bishop has operated as an academic advisor at the University of Houston since 2008 and as a vital member of the University of Houston community since 2006. As a UH advisor, he is responsible for over 700 students within the College of Technology and oversees the Academic Contract Program (which helps students at risk of being suspended from the university or not being able to further their respective degrees in the College of Technology). Bishop has increased the ACP retention rate by 35 percent and the college has seen a steady growth due to his dedicated work. He also oversees the College of Technology Student Ambassador program, which serves as a liaison between the college, university, students, and other outside entities that are vital to the success of the college. Aaron also serves as a youth director at Southeast Community Church, where he aids in the spiritual and personal growth of approximately 35 youth members, since 2008. A native of Houston, Texas, Bishop earned his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision with an emphasis in Construction Management from the University of Houston – Main Campus and earned his master’s degree in Counseling at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. Aaron Bishop is currently pursuing his Phd in Urban Planning and Environmental Policy at Texas Southern University.
